Frequently asked questions
How do I make a backup and restore it?
In the app, tap the gear icon “Settings” in the top right and choose “Create backup (JSON)” under “Data”. Save the file, for example in “Files”, or pass it on via “Share”, e.g. by AirDrop, email or to Google Drive. To restore, tap “Restore backup” in the same place and choose the file. Note: your current subscriptions will be replaced by those from the backup.
You can also export your subscriptions as CSV, for example for Excel or Numbers. The app can’t restore from a CSV, though – for that you need the JSON backup.
The backup file also contains your name and address for cancellation letters. Keep it somewhere safe.
When does ANU Subs remind me?
For every subscription with a cancellation deadline you get two notifications: one week before the last day to cancel and on the last day itself, each at 9 am. Subscriptions without a cancellation deadline and subscriptions you’ve already marked as cancelled don’t get reminders.
Does ANU Subs cancel my subscriptions?
No. ANU Subs only reminds you in time. You cancel with the provider yourself, for example online, by letter or by email. In the app, the “Cancel now” button takes you – depending on the subscription – straight to the cancellation page, to Apple’s or Google Play’s subscription management or to the provider’s website.
Why am I not getting reminders?
Usually, notifications for ANU Subs are turned off. On an iPhone, open “Settings” → “Notifications” → “ANU Subs” and turn on “Allow Notifications”. On Android, open “Settings” → “Notifications” → “App notifications” → “ANU Subs”, turn notifications on and leave the “Cancellation deadlines” category on. Depending on the manufacturer, the menus may be named slightly differently. In the app, the note “Reminders are off.” takes you straight there. Also check whether the subscription has a cancellation deadline and whether a Focus, Do Not Disturb or a battery-saving feature is holding back notifications.
What are the templates for?
When you add a new subscription with “+”, you’ll find templates for over 50 well-known services, from streaming and mobile to insurance, including Swiss providers like Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt. The template fills in the name, category and billing cycle, and for some also the link to the cancellation page. You enter the price yourself. If you can’t find your service, tap “Custom subscription”.
Where is my data stored?
Your subscriptions are stored on your phone. If you back up your phone, for example with iCloud Backup on an iPhone or Google backup on Android, they’re included. That backup belongs to you; we have no access to it. There’s no account and no server of ours. Don’t rely on your subscriptions coming back automatically if you delete the app. So it’s a good idea to also make a backup now and then under “Settings › Data”.
Where do the logos come from?
The logos are built into the app and come from the free Simple Icons collection. Nothing is loaded from the internet to show them. Some well-known services from the templates show their logo, others show a coloured first letter.
How can I see what my subscriptions cost?
At the top of the “Subscriptions” tab, you can see what your active subscriptions cost per month and per year. Quarterly and yearly prices are converted into a monthly share. Cancelled subscriptions count until they end, then no longer. If a space is selected at the top, the totals only cover that selection.
“Upcoming” shows the next payment and what is still due this month, and in the “Spaces” tab each space has its own totals. You choose the currency (CHF or EUR) under “Settings › General”; nothing is converted, only the display changes. The breakdown by category and price history come with ANU Subs Pro.
What is ANU Subs Pro?
For free, you can use up to 5 active subscriptions and 2 spaces. Reminders always stay free. With ANU Subs Pro you get as many subscriptions and spaces as you need, the breakdown by category, price history, cancellation letters ready to send and your payments and deadlines in your calendar.
When the app launches, ANU Subs Pro will be available as a subscription for CHF 8 per year. It renews automatically until you cancel it. On an iPhone, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends in your Apple Account settings; on Android, cancel in Google Play at any time before the current year ends. Payment is handled by Apple or Google Play. If Pro ends, your subscriptions and spaces are kept. On a new phone, tap “Restore purchases” under “Settings › ANU Subs Pro” using the same Apple Account or Google Account. Our Terms of Use apply.
Can I switch between iPhone and Android?
Yes. On your old phone, create a backup (JSON) under “Settings › Data” and get the file onto your new phone, for example by email or via cloud storage. There, download ANU Subs, tap “Restore backup” under “Settings › Data” and choose the file. Your subscriptions, spaces and sender details come with you.
ANU Subs Pro doesn’t move over: a purchase only applies in the store where you made it, the App Store or Google Play. So you’ll need Pro again on the new phone. Cancel the old subscription so you don’t pay twice.
How do I contact you?
Write to us at support@anusubs.app. The easiest way is in the app under “Settings › About › Support”: the app version, operating system version and language are then already in the email – your subscriptions aren’t. We read every message and reply as soon as we can.
